AHERA Building Inspector Refresher Training

Background
In October 1986 the Asbestos Hazard Emergency response Act (AHERA) was signed into law in the United States. Included in this Act are provisions directing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to establish rules and regulations addressing asbestos-containing materials. Specifically, EPA was directed to address the issues of (1) identifying, (2) evaluating, and (3) controlling Asbestos containing Materials (ACM). In conjunction with several stakeholders including the U.S Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the final AHERA regulations became effective December 1987.

Applicable BC Legislations
In British Columbia Part 6 of the WorkSafeBC Occupational Health and Safety Regulation sets the requirements for Asbestos Containing Materials in all workplaces. Regulations in Canada and the United States require the use of accredited building Inspectors when conducting hazard assessments for the presence of Asbestos.

This course has been awarded:

.5 IH CMP by the American Board of Industrial Hygienists (ABIH)

Intended Audience: Occupational Health & Safety Specialists.

The Program
This is a four-hour course required by the WorkSafeBC and EPA to maintain your current AHERA Building Inspector certification. During this course, we will review the certification requirements for building inspectors.
Another important aspect of this course pertains to certification. During this course, we will review the certification requirements for building inspectors and the basic elements of a thorough building inspection.

The course meets all the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) requirements for recertification. Included in this course is a review of any new and already existing Building Inspection duties under WorkSafeBC Regulations, EPA, and OSHA regulations, new industry developments, current and proposed regulatory issues and the basic elements of a thorough building inspection.

CAUTION: Applicants are advised against making travel and accommodation arrangements until they have received an email confirming that the course is proceeding.
