The Program
Moderate Risk Abatement Worker Training

This 2-day course provides a comprehensive discussion of the practices and procedures used in hazardous materials (asbestos & lead) abatement according to WorkSafeBC regulations at the Worker Level. It includes both classroom lectures and hands-on mock workshops. The mock workshops emphasize various moderate risk level techniques to minimize dust and fiber release when disturbing hazardous materials.
The topics included:

History of lead and asbestos use.
Asbestos types, characteristics and applications
Health effects and medical surveillance requirements for asbestos and lead
Provincial and federal regulations
Personal protective equipment including respirators
Moderate risk abatement procedures including glove bag removal
Worker Decontamination procedures
Packaging of Waste
Introduction to abatement projects as a Worker.
