This 1 day training course expands on the Asbestos Awareness Training course to include additional hazardous materials that are becoming more prevalent within the workplace. In recent years specific hazardous materials have gained increased attention through release of new medical research studies and confirmation of worker exposure to specific hazards that have resulted in death. Because of this, it has become very important for individuals to be educated in the awareness of these hazards.

This course is designed to meet WorkSafeBC current regulatory requirements and provide workers with practical applicable knowledge to properly identify all hazards present in the workplace and how to perform work in a safe manner that will eliminate any chance of hazard exposure.

This course will cover all required aspects, such as review of applicable legislation, health hazards and effects, uses and applications, personal protective equipment, methods of control and management. The following hazards are covered during this course:

  • Asbestos
  • Lead
  • Mercury
  • Mould
  • PCBs
  • Silica

In addition, this course will cover a respirator orientation on the proper use of a respirators and respirator fit testing using a qualitative method such as irritant smoke or Bitrex. Each individual will be sized and instructed on proper donning procedures, and a fit test will be conducted using one of the offered methods.

This course is easily mobile and can be included into your company’s regularly scheduled in-house training programs.
